Negative Thinking and its Severe Effects

“It’s all in the mind.” ― George Harrison

A mind is a powerful tool if you let it be a weapon, instead of a boat. Because the type of thoughts that you choose to focus on will shape your reality, both current and future.

Positive and negative thoughts can become self-fulfilling forecasts, what we expect can often come true. Negative thinking is not just a bad thing but it’s a deadly habit that can wreck your brain, body, and overall health for a long term.

Negative images are created by ingrained patterns related to our own beliefs: about self-esteem, security, money, people, life, and everything else.

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” ― Plutarch

Millennials are no stranger to stress and depression, particularly when its work related. A recent study reported that around 20% of Millennials sought out help or advice in the workplace for depression, a higher percentage than any other generation.

According to the Status of Women in the States report from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, Millennial women ages, 18-34 report an average of 4.9 days of poor mental health per month, while Millennial men report an average of 3.6 poor mental health days. Our brains are highly attuned to stress, even when such stress is of the mundane variety and not at all life threatening.

An example to understand the behavior of a positive and a negative mind:
An individual who successfully avoids a threat would wake up the next morning and have another opportunity to collect a reward, but an individual who didn’t avoid the threat would have no such opportunity.

The effects of negative thinking:

1. When we are in a negative state we do not attract those elements that would make our lives advance; rather we attract the circumstances that support us in thinking something is wrong, and we get stuck.
2. If you think negatively all of the time, if you read negative news all the time or if you worry often then you are at a severe risk of experiencing brain disruptions that can cause all kinds of unwanted emotions.
3. The body lowers its defenses, as negativity subtracts from our energy.
4. Low confidence + low self-esteem + low energy = zero success

However, it is never too late to start discovering yourself and what your thoughts tend to default to.

Self-knowledge and self-understanding will surely take time, but the rewards are tremendous. You will start enjoying your life much better as you understand what beliefs cause you to think in a negative way.

It is your mind, your heart, your imaginations. Don’t limit yourself!!
